Sep 08, 2008 I just purchased a new Honey Bee King II and like the chopper so far. However, in my 60 plus years of modeling, I don't think I have ever seen a worse instruction manual. I started flying with a co-axial heli, then moved on to a honeybee king 2. Knowing that, this bird is a very difficult to learn and fly heli, but persisted on with the learning curve. Few mods is a must for king2, without those mods, u'll not be able to get this bird flying (hovering). 1) Brushless motor (3900kv) 2) Brushless esc (20-30Amp) 3) Good headlock / head holding gyro (stock gyro is crap) After all these mods done. I found that its easier to hover, more power, easier to lift-off the training skid and less twitchy (in a way). U finally able to predicts where's the heli tilting to, so on and so forth, and after a few sessions, u'll be able to 'catch' where's the direction the heli going to tilts.
Just apply very slight aileron or elevator to 'balance' the heli. And wala u done it. After knowing how to hover king2, hovering a 450size heli is chicken-feat liao. I thought of starting with something small like nine eagle solo pro. I fly in the basement carpark my apartment as there's no wind there. Still on lesson 1 of rudd's school of rotary flight.
Probably the wrong person to ask for tips. Have lots of expertise on how to crash though!Start with lifting-off the training skid first, until u're very confident of balancing the heli (aileron & elevator stick movement), then up throttle slowly, bit by bit, slow and steady, will win the game. Never be impatient when learning to hover heli, if cannot down heli, never take-off if u're unable to balance the heli (dont' take risks, u will regret).
