Local Area Network Driver For Windows 7

Now here is my problem. This desktop will not connect to the internet. When I try to connect, I have gotten error messages saying, 'Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter', 'Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter', and 'Problem with the Local Area Connection Adapter'. Here is the thing, I have bought ethernet cables, and various other means of connecting and it just will not connect.
There are three other computers that have no problem connecting to the same thing, one of these computers is the EXACT same type as the one that is not working. Something kind of funny is that I have two HP Pavilion's. The first one did not connect until I got the second one.
When I got the second one, it connected for an hour, then stopped, and now only the FIRST one works. In any case, the computer won't detect any drivers, nor will it connect to the internet, and considering three other computers do work, I am at a loss.

Power off the modem and router and wait 3+ minutes - then power on the modem - when it is up and running power on the router - when the router is up and running reboot all the computers.
