The gunman was named as Samuel Perry, a 44-year-old former employee who opened fire on Christopher Sayers on the 39th floor of the building which is on West 59th Street between 11th Avenue and the Joe DiMaggio highway.
He shot Sayers, 37, 'several times' on the 37th floor of the building at around 7.10am, using a 9mm semi-automatic gun. Perry, who had a history of violence, then made his way down the building as police were called and other workers evacuated. He was found dead on the fifth floor at 8.45am after shooting himself in the head. Workers said afterwards that the shooter was a 'bit of a hot head' who had been fired two days ago.
